"We must understand
clearly", runs one of their publications, "that the Kuomintang today does not rest on popular support
nor on the support of its members.
It is an
organization propped up by bayonets". "The policy and power of the Tang is in the hands of soldiers. It has become a tool of militarism from top to bottom". "Unless the Tang is re-organized the revolution cannot succeed: without the use of revolutionary methods the Tang cannot be re-organized". Wong Tsing-wai himself in an interview which he gave to a Chinese journalist at Haiphong, expressed similar sentiments. The Kuomintang, as at present purged represents only a small minority. Its motto is "No parties within the party", which means the expulsion of all who do not agree with the principles of the clique which holds power for the moment.
Only the Kuomintang has the right of free speech and public assembly. The mass of the people are outside it, oppressed and inarticulate. There are two classes of men in China, revolutionaries and reactionaries, oppressed and oppressors.
Chiang
is a reactionary and, therefore, oppresses the revolutionaries.. This is not as it should be: the party should be the people, or at least so many of the people as are politically minded. And even outsiders should have the right of free speech.
